On Friday I finally started listening to the Google I/O coverage. I had to wait the weekend to get my thoughts in order and not rage all of the screen. Why? Because Google basically said “Look at all the women here! Look at how awesome we are for having all these women!”
Is “pin-up” cosplay over? I hope so.

You know what I’m bored with? Cosplay that is a pin-up or an excessively sexy (as in, there’s less fabric than the SI swimsuit cover) version of something. Seriously- way to have no creativity at all. Yes, I know it takes time and crafty skill to make any costume, but every time
5 on Friday: Things I’m Tired of Seeing at Conventions

Conventions are a magical place, where all things geeky and nerdy are embraced. Where you can be weird and not be judged for being weird (at least not by other con goers). It’s a special kind of freedom we don’t always experience in the real world. But with great power comes great

Editor’s note: Citybox provided PureGeekery with a box of goodies to review at no cost. Part of what I love about attending local geek conventions is discovering awesome new things in the area. As much as we all complain that Indy is boring, there’s really a lot to do around here if

Written on June 10, 2014
in Geek Culture, Geek Girl

It’s summer, which means women’s bodies are the topic of conversation yet again (although really, they always are). Most recently, we’re talking about the body of Mekayla Diehl, aka Miss Indiana. You’ve heard about Claire’s Pop Con experience, and Ryan’s first ever con experience at Pop Con. So you know mine had to be coming up next. Some of you know, conventions aren’t exactly my thing. Nothing against cons themselves, it’s just….that’s a lot of people. I enjoy the Louisville Arcade Expo because it’s basically going
Ryan’s First Con: Thoughts on Indy PopCon

Going to a “Con” is something I had never really considered doing before. I didn’t really understand what went on at them. I’m also very introverted, and tend to avoid large crowds of people for long periods of time. However, when Nicole told me she was able to get me a press

It’s my birthday! And I cut my hand with a pairing knife trying to pit an avocado, so I’m typing this whole thing with one hand. I really know how to celebrate! Anyway, as you all probably notice, Pure Geekery spent the weekend at the first #IndyPopCon. While smaller than what I
Post-credit scenes + mainstream media = SPOILERS!

Over Memorial Day weekend, I, along with many geeks alike, was very excited to see X-Men: Days of Future Past. Being Memorial Day weekend, I was busy, and unable to see the movie until Monday. On Sunday, I went to pull up movie times, and found something very disturbing. The front page
#GeekLife: Cosplay on a Budget

Lets face it- cosplay is expensive. Once you start pricing out the time and money spent getting every fabulous detail 100% perfect, it becomes painfully clear that it’s nearly impossible for the everyday geek to make the perfect costume. (Especially a geek with wedding and school tuition bills to pay!)Sure there’s awesome
