At Pure Geekery, we tend to focus on the purely fun aspects of Indianapolis life. Places like bookstores, gaming cafes, and museums. But it’s important to focus on those working to make Indianapolis a better place as well, which is where Fletcher Place Community Center comes in.
Fletcher Place is a faith-based organization that provides meals and groceries to those in Indianapolis that need assistance. They also provide clothing, workshops, GED tutoring, preschool, and summer art programs. They also have one of their major fundraisers this month. The Culinary Collage which takes place at the University of Indianapolis on Sunday, April 27th.
We volunteered at the Culinary Collage last year, we will this year as well, and it was an absolute blast. For a $10 Kroger gift card (or $15 cash) you get in to the event. Once you’re in you can sample food from restaurants from around Indy, although most are from the south side of the city. Pure, Red Lion, and Santorini are the favorites of mine that participate. There’s also raffle prizes and a silent auction. If you have kids (under 12 are free by the way) the Silly Safari animal show is there to keep them entertained.
Fletcher Place does amazing work in the community, and I’d love to see some of our Pure Geekery readers come out and support them. We’ll have stickers for anyone who comes by to say “hi” to us while we’re there, and you get bonus points if you bring us some guacamole from La Margarita. (Pure Geekery Points are like Schrute Bucks, but we don’t have the authority to give you a longer lunch break). Some of our boys from the Race City Rebels will be volunteering as well, make sure to say “hi” to them too!
