Book Review: The Sky is Yours

Cover of The Sky Is YoursI don’t like to review books I don’t finish. I don’t think it’s fair to the author. It could be their book just wasn’t for me. Or there might be a part further in that brings the whole thing together. But since I received The Sky Is Yours as a review copy, I have to review it.

The premise of The Sky Is Yours was interesting. A dystopian world created both by nature and man, where the protagonist is forced to abandon what they know. The Smith built the world itself in vivid detail.

The characters in that world however, were generic sci-fi tropes and unlikeable. You have the spoiled rich boy, the beautiful naïve girl, and the “undesirable” weird girl. They are all written one-dimensional and bland.

I’m not sure if Smith built this world, and then had no idea who to put into it. Or if he was trying to satirize science fiction, and I’m just not getting it. After about 70 pages, I gave up trying to figure it out.

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of The Sky Is Yours for review from Blogging For Books.
