May the 4th be with you!
I first saw Star Wars when I was 8 years old. My friend Molly and I sat awestruck in front of the screen for 3 nights, absorbed in sci-fi awesomeness. I had always been a bit of a nerdy child, running around with a headband over my eyes while my mom watched Star Trek, but Star Wars was my first official fandom. For years after that, my friends and I ruined countless curtain rods during lightsaber battles, spent hours perfecting our perfect Vader cape swirl, and enjoyed Saturdays at the flea market searching for vintage action figures. While my classmates were reading Charlotte’s Web, I was glued to Star Wars novels, dreaming about leaving the Midwest behind to fight for the rebellion.
Needless to say, today might be my favourite holiday. While I’m not one to be shy about letting my nerd flag fly, today Star Wars fans can walk the streets and greet fellow members of the Alliance with a smile, connecting for a moment with those who love the Star Wars universe as much as you do.
May the 4th be with you! (And go get some free comic books too!)
