App Review: Unfilth Your Habitat

Unflith Your Habitat IconNote: In the iTunes app store this app is called “Unfilth Your Habitat” but in app it’s actually “Unf*ck Your Habitat.” So language warning if you decide to download it. For this review, I’ll be referring to the app as “Unfilth Your Habitat.”

I really don’t do well the whole cleaning, organizing, keeping the house nice thing. It’s not that I’m lazy, not all the time anyway, it’s that I’m easily distracted. Plus, I’m not always sure what I’m supposed to do. I get the grand scheme of things is to “clean” but I don’t always know exactly where to start. That’s where Unflith Your Habitat comes in.

Unflith Your Habitat is not your typical Good Housekeeping Magazine type of cleaning app (in case you didn’t get that by the name). They bill themselves as “Terrifying motivation for lazy people with messy homes.” They get it. Your busy, stress, and overwhelmed. You have a million things to do, and cleaning isn’t always high on the priority list. So they make things simple.

When you open the Unfilth Your Habitat app you can select a random challenge, or a challenge by room. It’ll tell you to do things like clean out the pantry, put things in drawers, and vacuum. You can select the challenge based on how much time you have too. There is, like in most apps anymore, a rudimentary game system that gives you achievements. It’s really just handy to show the person you live with “look at all the things I did!”

I use Unfilth Your Habitat as a supplement to my regular cleaning. It’s good for when you’re sitting around thinking “I should be doing something. I really should be doing something. I don’t know what I should be doing.” But outside of that, it doesn’t work the way my mind works. I like to see a list of things, and know what’s coming up. I’m less interested in random and more interested in a routine.

However, if you just need something to get you to do something, anything, than Unfilth Your Habitat might be a good fit for you. You can get Unflith Your Habitat for $1.99 from the Apple App Store or the Google App Store.
