On Headphone Jacks…

After months of rumors Apple has officially released a phone without a 3.5mm (headphone) jack. Of course, everyone is upset about it. What about my wired headphones? An adapter? What if I want to charge my phone while I listen to music? This is ridiculous! I’m switching to Android! (Hate to break it to you, but Motorola killed off the 3.5mm jack in June.)

It really is an excellent rectangle.

It really is an excellent rectangle.

Well readers, I have an even better solution for you. A way you can still have the cool new iPhone and use your old headphones without an adapter. A way you can charge your phone and still listen to music. I’ll even do you one better, this method won’t even drain your phone battery at all. What magic is this? It’s the personal digital audio player. Or as you might know it, the MP3 player.

You load up all your songs, and then hit play! That’s it! It won’t drain your phone battery, because it has nothing to do with your phone. Likewise, it won’t interfere with any other apps. It has a standard 3.5mm jack, or some of them even have Bluetooth in case you want to use your fancy wireless headphones.  There’s even an option for your fancy streaming audio. It’s an elegant, simple, solution to your latest technological problem.

And if you think this is just a desperate plea from someone who really likes MP3 players, who wants them to keep being produced, then you are 100% correct. Please go buy one. I want this market to keep existing.
