I’ve Been: Refinishing Furniture
I’ve not been blogging a lot lately. It’s not been a conscious decision, so much as I’ve just been finding other ways to occupy my time. So I thought I’d let you in on what I’ve been doing instead. And really this happens enough that I’m going to go ahead and give this a title as if it’s going to be a regular section on the site. So welcome to “I’ve Been,” the section dedicated to what I’m doing instead of blogging. In this installment, refinishing furniture.
It started simple enough. I found out I could buy tapered legs at the hardware store. Score! I stained them, and put them on my IKEA Expedit bookshelf. My $35 bookshelf went from basic to fancy in about 30 minutes.
I’m not someone who’s particularly handy, so doing even a small thing like this got me excited. It’s a little thing, but it got my confidence up.
Which led to refinishing a credenza that my husband had built when we lived in the old house. It’s a solid piece of furniture, but he built it to match the our very traditional and very golden oak basement. It didn’t really match. I stripped it. Sanded it. And refinished it, adding the new legs I found I could get so easily of course. I really wish I had thought to take a better “before” photo of the cabinet. As it stands, I only have this picture of the old basement where you can see the cabinet.
Ok this is all going good. I haven’t felt this competent since I fixed mom’s old turntable. Now I’m feeling really good about myself. I’m starting to think maybe, just maybe, I can make some actual furniture. Like, on my own. Ok, deep breath. Let’s do this.
You did a fantastic job! It looks 100% new!
Thank you!
Give tumblr a visit and get inspired for new furniture, its full of carpenters that share really cool work. Anyway nothing beats some DIY work and yours looks really nice. Best wishes.
I’ll give Tumblr a look, I’ve been all over Pinterest looking at ideas lately
